What Philosophy Suits Educational Practice in an ICT- Enabled World?-A Philosophical Inquiry into ICT Related Issues of Access, Equity, Excellence and Digital Divide in a Knowledge Society.
Introduction.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are entering the classroom in a big way. Accordingly the entire processes of teaching-learning are going to be overhauled. This raises a number of philosophical as well as methodological issues. What will be the nature of student-teacher interaction and teacher-community interaction? What will be the nature of 'inquiry' in an ICT enabled educational scenario? Because of this comprehensive change it becomes imperative for the prospective teachers to become familiar with and be comfortable with these new technologies. This practicum is an attempt to empower student teachers in this new area of teaching and learning.
Objectives of the Practicum.
Student teachers are expected to be accomplishing the following tasks.
1) Be familiar with and be proficient in managing the various ICT tools such as the Internet, the World Wide Web, the E-mail, Web logs (Blogs), Social Networks, Open/free software, Wikipedia etc.
2) Developing understanding of ICT enabled educational practices in school and in higher education.
3) Raising and discussing philosophical issues regarding access, equity, excellence, digital divide, propriety and open source ware etc in the background of major schools of philosophy.
4) Constructing a philosophy of education that works in an ICT enabled educational environment.
ICT specific activities to be undertaken by student teachers.
Each student teacher is advised to undertake the following activities.
1) Create an email ID in Gmail and engage in scholarly communication with experts, teachers, peers school students and the public regarding the topic. Familiarize with various tools.(Stage1 Nov.20-Dec.10)
2) Create one’s own blog and publish works.(Stage 2 Dec.11 – 20)
3) Create online community and engage in scholarly interaction with experts, teachers, school teachers, peers and students.( Stage III-Dec.21 – 31)
Submit the report of your work electronically by 31st Dec 2008.
