MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
Mercy C.J.
Philosophy and life are intimately connected. It is the philosophy of people that decides the goal of their life. Again, individuals with similar philosophies have a tendency to spread their ideals. This process is called education. Thus education can be considered as the dynamic side of philosophy. Educational philosophy is philosophy applied to education. Since education and philosophy are the two sides of a coin, every teacher must have his own philosophy. Only then a teacher can attain his desired goal.
All great teachers were great philosophers. A teacher must be a friend, philosopher and a guide to his students. As a teacher I will be a friend to my students. I will try my best to know the problems of the students and will provide them with necessary helps as far as I am able to do it.
Even though the teacher has his own ideas and is not able to communicate his ideas effectively his ideas will be futile. So I will try myself to be a good communicator. I will take efforts to understand the learning disabilities of the student and will apply necessary steps to mend it. It will help in the development of the students. A teacher should be able to think from the level of the students. Only then he can teach effectively. I will be impartial to y students.
A teacher should be a seer and prophet. He should be able to visualize the future of his students. Only then he should be able to guide them in the right way. So I will try to visualize the future of my students based on their abilities and innate potentialities. I will motivate them to achieve their goals in life.
A teacher should be a role model to his students. All great teachers like Jesus Christ. And Buddha was role models. They taught us through their life. For example, Mahatma Gandhi taught us through his life-“my life is my message”. As such a teacher should teach through his life. I will try my best to be a role model to my students. Thus I believe that I can mould a better society.
